After Thailand, a look at some of the worst school attacks in the world

Thailand, 2022

On 6 October, as many as 34 people, which included 22 children, died in a gun and knife attack at a preschool centre located at the Na Klang district of Nong Bua Lamphu province in northeastern Thailand. The shooter was identified as a 34-year-old Panya Kamrab, according to a report by New York Times.

Uvalde, Texas, 2022

This year in May, 19 children and two teachers were killed by an 18-year-old shooter at Robb Elementary School in America’s Ulvade. The shooter was  identified as one Salvador Ramos, who was later killed by the law enforcement.

Kabul, 2021

Last year in May, a bomb blast outside Sayed Ul-Shuhada high school in Kabul killed over 80 people and left 150 people wounded. Most of those who were killed were female students who belonged to the Hazara ethnic minority.

Peshawar, Pakistan, 2014

On 16 December 2014, Pakistani Taliban fighters attacked an army-run school in Peshawar, which left 150 people dead, out of which at least 134 were students. Pakistan’s Army said all the seven terrorists involved in the attack were later killed.

Connecticut, 2012

A young man named Adam Lanza, on 14 December 2012, first killed his mother then drove to Sandy Hook Elementary School in Connecticut’s Newtown and killed 20 school children and six school administrators. As per media reports, he killed himself soon after the attack.
