Then Coric, the 15th-ranked player in the world, comfortably saw off Leandro Riedi, ranked at 160, by 6-1, 6-4.

Croatia last won the Hopman Cup 27 years ago when Goran Ivanisevic and Iva Majoli teamed up to beat Switzerland who then featured Martina Hingis and Marc Rosset.

Roger Federer led the Swiss to victory in 2019 when the tournament was last played in Perth, Australia.
