Deadly blizzard wreaks havoc in US

A deadly winter storm in north America has claimed the lives of as many as 59 people.

The National Weather service said that by Sunday Buffalo in New York has received nearly four feet of snowfall. Thirty-four people have died in Buffalo city alone.

Buffalo police commissioner said that more bodies are expected to be recovered as snow is moved. Authorities have urged people not to drive out of Buffalo until absolutely necessary.

The New York Governor Kathy Hochul said, “This blizzard is one for the ages. Certainly, it’s the blizzard of the century.” People have reportedly died of cardiac arrests, frostbite and unavailability of heat.

Experts say that climate change might have a role to play in intensifying the storm. However, weather scientists have predicted that relief might come soon as temperatures are expected to rise in the coming days.
